홍해에서 지난 주 침몰한 여객선에 탑승했던 친인척들의 소식을 기다리던 수 백 명의 분노한 이집트 인들이 사고 선박 소속 회사의 사무실에 방화했습니다.
경찰은 6일, 이집트 사파가 항구 외곽에 위치한 엘 살람 해양운수 회사를 공격한 군중들을 해산하기 위해 최루탄을 발사했습니다.
수 백명의 희생자 유가족들은 1400명 이상이 탑승했던 사고 여객선이 지난 3일 일찍 침몰한 이후 항구 입구에서 기다리고 있었습니다.
이집트 구조 대원들은 그 동안 4백 명을 구조하고 약 200구의 시신을 회수한 가운데, 아직도 실종중인 8백 여명을 찾고 있습니다.
일부 생존자들은 이집트 인 선장이 사고 선박을 버리고 구명 보트를 타고 탈출했다고 말했습니다. 선장의 소재는 아직 파악되지 않고 있습니다.
서방 언론들은 생존자들의 말을 인용해, 사고 선박이 지난 2일 늦게 사우디 아라비아의 한 항구를 떠난 지 얼마 지난 지 않아 화재가 발생했지만, 선장이 회항하기를 거부했다고 보도했습니다.

Hundreds of angry Egyptians awaiting news of relatives on a ferry that sank in the Red Sea last week have set fire to the office of the company that owned the ship.
Police used tear gas today (Monday) to disperse the crowd that attacked the office of the As Salam maritime company outside the Egyptian port of Safaga.
Hundreds of relatives have been at the port entrance since the ferry with more than 14 hundred people on board sank early Friday.
Egyptian rescue teams are searching for 800 people still missing. Searchers have rescued 400 people and recovered almost 200 bodies.
Some survivors say the Egyptian captain abandoned ship by lifeboat. The captain is among the missing.
Western news reports quote survivors as saying a fire broke out on the ship not long after it left a port in Saudi Arabia late Thursday, but the captain refused to turn back.
