최근 일본이 다시 미국산 쇠고기 수입을 금지시킨데 따라, 미 국회가 인내심을 잃고 있다고 토마스 쉬퍼 주일 미국대사가 말했습니다.
쉬퍼 대사는 3일, 도쿄에서, 일본의 미국산 쇠고기 금수조치가 대규모 무역분쟁을 초래한다면 불행한 일이 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
쉬퍼 대사는 그러나, 이 문제가 가까운 시일 내에 해결될 수 있을 것이란 희망을 나타냈습니다.
일본은 지난 12월 12일, 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 금수조치를 해제했으나, 금지품목인 척추뼈가 포함된 쇠고기가 반입되자, 다시 수입을 금지시켰습니다.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer says Congress is losing patience with Japan over its reinstated ban on American beef.
Speaking in Tokyo today (Friday), Schieffer said it would be unfortunate if the Japanese restrictions on U.S. beef imports resulted in a large trade conflict. But he also expressed hope the issue could be settled in a short period of time.
Japan's ban on U.S. beef imports was lifted on December 12th, but imports were stopped again last month after beef arrived containing banned spinal bones. Japan considers such material to be at risk for carrying mad cow disease.
The United States has apologized for the incident and says the company that shipped the suspicious meat will be barred from further exports.
