스리랑카의 타밀 호랑이 반군단체들이 다음달에 스위스에서 정부 측과 회담하기로 합의했다고 에릭 솔하임 노르웨이 평화 특사가 말했습니다.
솔하임 특사는 25일 스리랑카 북부 킬리노츠치에서 반군 지도자인 벨루필라이 프라바카란씨와 만난 뒤 이같이 발표했습니다. 솔하임씨는 이보다 하루 전에는 콜롬보에서 마힌다 라자파크세 대통령을 면담했습니다.
스리랑카에서는 최근 폭력사태가 잇따라 발생하면서 정부군과 반군 사이의 2002년 휴전 합의가 위태로운 상태에 놓여 있습니다. 타밀 반군들은 스리랑카 동북 지역에 독립국가를 건설하기 위해 지난 1983년부터 투쟁을 계속하고 있습니다.

Norwegian peace envoy Eric Solheim says Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels have agreed to hold talks with the Sri Lankan government in Switzerland next month. Solheim made the announcement after meeting today (Wednesday) with rebel leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in the northern town of Kilinochchi.
The envoy had met Tuesday in Colombo with President Mahinda Rajapakse. A series of attacks in recent months has threatened to destroy a 2002 cease-fire. Ambushes blamed on Tamil rebels have killed about 70 military personnel since December.
Meanwhile, Tamil rebels blame the military for abuses that have killed dozens of Tamil civilians and rebels. Tamil rebels have been fighting for a separate Tamil homeland in Sri Lanka's east and north since 1983.
