인도네시에서 실시된 의학검사 결과, 이번주에 숨진 세살난 남자 어린이가 조류독감의 변종인 H5N1 바이러스에 감염됐던 것으로 나타났습니다.
이 어린이는 17일, 웨스트 자바의 지방병원에서 숨졌으며, 숨진 어린이의 열세살난 누나 역시, 지난주 조류독감으로 인해 사망한 것으로 추정되고 있습니다.
또한, 이들과 형제자매 지간인 다른 세명 역시, 같은 바이러스 증상으로 앓고 있습니다. 현재 이들 세 명의 혈액견본이 홍콩의 세계 보건 기구 –WHO 연구소에 보내져 검사를 받고 있습니다.
한편, 홍콩정부 관리들은, 죽은 울새에게서 H5N1 바이러스가 검출됐다고 말했으나, WHO 관계자들은, 아직까지 이를 확인하지 않았습니다.

Indonesian medical tests indicate a three-year-old boy who died this week had contracted the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu.
The toddler from West Java died Tuesday at a provincial hospital. His 13-year old sister died last week of suspected bird flu, and a third sibling is suffering symptoms of the virus.
Samples from all three siblings are being tested at a World Health Organization laboratory in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, officials in Hong Kong say a dead robin has tested positive for the deadly H5N1 virus. W.H.O. officials have not yet confirmed the finding.
Elsewhere, Ukraine confirmed a new outbreak of bird flu among birds in the southern Crimea Peninsula.
