Japan has issued avalanche warnings across the country today (Saturday) as warmer weather and rain were predicted for mountainous areas hit by record snowfall.
The country's meteorological agency says temperatures are expected to rise to well above freezing in western Japan, where there is nearly four meters of snow piled up in some areas.
Northeastern Japan is expected to get about eight centimeters of rain by early Sunday.
The government has announced the disbursement of nearly 100 million dollars to local governments for snow removal projects.
