호주의 아름다운 항구도시 시드니에서는 수 많은 사람들이 지켜보는 가운데 화려한 불꽃놀이가 펼쳐질 예정이며 호주에 이어 남아시아와 중동, 아프리카, 유럽 남미 지역순으로 시간차를 두고 새해맞이 행사가 벌어집니다.
미국은 세계에서 가장 늦게 새해 아침을 맞게 되는 나라들 가운데 하나로 뉴욕 타임 스퀘어 광장에서 2005년도를 마감하는 전통적인 제야축제가 펼쳐집니다.

People around the world are preparing to welcome the new year with huge celebrations, many with fireworks, music and much fanfare.
New Zealand and Australia are among some of the earliest countries to usher in 2006. Crowds of Australians gather at Sydney's landmark waterfront Opera House to see the massive annual fireworks display.
A few hours later, celebrations take place in major Asian cities, followed by festivities across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
The United States is among the last to usher in the new year. A huge celebration is planned for New York where revelers will say goodbye to 2005 in Times Square.
