중국당국은, 가금류를 위한 보다 저렴하고 새로운 조류독감 백신을 개발하는데 성공했다고 밝혔습니다.
중국 관영 통신은, 지아 유링 농업부 수의국장의 말을 인용해, 이번 주말까지 10억마리분의 새 백신이 준비될 것이라고 보도했습니다. 지아유링 씨는, 이 백신이 현재 사용되는 다른 백신들보다 생산비가 20퍼센트밖에 들지않을 정도로 저렴하다고 말했습니다.
이 백신은 또한, 다른 조류 질병인 뉴캐슬 병에도 효과가 있고, 주사나 복용, 코를 통한 흡입방식으로도 접종할 수 있는 것으로 알려졌습니다. 중국 관리들은 한해 백40억마리의 닭이 중국에서 사육되며, 같은 기간 약 50억 마리가 사육되는 것으로 추산하고있습니다.
중국은 지난 10월 19일 이후 치명적인 조류독감 H5N1 으로 인한 발병사례가 스물여섯차례 있었고, 여섯차례 인간 감염사례가 발생해, 그 중 두명이 숨졌습니다.

Chinese authorities say they have developed a new and less expensive bird-flu vaccine for poultry. State media quote China's top veterinary official (Jia Youling) as saying a billion doses of the new vaccine will be ready by the end of this week. He says the cost per dose is only about 20 percent of existing vaccines.
The reports say the new vaccine will also work against another poultry affliction, Newcastle disease, and can be delivered by injection or other means, including orally and as a nasal spray.
Chinese officials estimate the country raises 14-billion chickens a year, with about five-billion birds living at any one time. China has reported 26 outbreaks of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu in poultry since October 19th. The country has had six human cases, with two confirmed deaths.
