Chinese authorities have jailed two factory managers for producing baby formula so lacking in nutrition that it killed one baby and left others dangerously malnourished.
Official state media report the director of the powdered milk factory in Shandong province was sentenced to seven years in prison and one of his deputies was given a three-year sentence (with five years of probation).
Counterfeiting of foods and medicines is rampant in China, but the milk powder cases caused a national uproar after photos of malnourished infants appeared in the media.
