중국 정부는 오는 2010년 말까지 중국에서 에이즈 바이러스인 HIV 에 감염된 사람의 수가 150만 명이 넘지 않도록 할 계획이라고, 중국 보건부장이 밝혔습니다.
중국 정부의 이 같은 예상은 일부 국제 기구의 예측과는 크게 다른 것입니다. 세계보건기구 WHO는 중국에서 2010년까지 최고 천만 명이 HIV에 감염될 수 있다고 경고했습니다.
중국은 현재 HIV 감염자 수가 84만명이라고 말하고 있습니다.

China's health minister (Gao Qiang) says the government plans to keep the number of HIV-infected people in the country under one-and-a-half million through the end of this decade.
The government's forecast differs sharply from some international estimates.
The World Health Organization says that up to 10-million people could be infected in the country by 2010.
China says it now has about 840-thousand people infected with the virus.
The disease in China has largely been limited to victims of unsanitary blood-buying schemes or people infected through prostitution or intravenous drug use.
Hospital blood transfusions have also spread the disease.
