거의 40년만에 처음으로 가자지구의 수많은 팔레스타인인들이 26일 이스라엘 군의 보안검색을 받지 않고 국경을 넘어 이집트로 들어갔습니다.
유럽의 감시인들은 이날 모든 것이 순조롭게 진행됐으며, 거의 1,600여명이 양쪽 방향으로 국경을 통과했다고 밝혔습니다. 이스라엘은 이 지역에서 철수한 후 지난 9월에 라파 검문소를 폐쇄했었습니다.
팔레스타인 당국은 25일 이곳을 정식으로 접수했으며, 오늘 처음으로 팔레스타인 통제하에 주민들의 국경통과 업무를 보았습니다.

Hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip crossed into Egypt today (Saturday) without having to submit to Israeli security checks, for the first time in nearly 40 years. European monitors say the day went very smoothly, and that nearly 16-hundred people crossed the border in both directions.
Israel closed the Rafah crossing in September after withdrawing its troops from Gaza. The Palestinian Authority officially took control of it Friday, and today was the first real day of operations under Palestinian control.
Under a U.S.-brokered deal, the Palestinians are now in charge, with backup from European monitors, while Israel watches from a distance over closed-circuit television monitors. Rafah is expected to open 24 hours-a-day once all 70 monitors arrive and are settled.
