일본의 우주탐사선 하야부사호가 지난 20일, 소행성 이토카와 표면에 30분간 착륙했었다고 일본 우주항공연구개발기구가 발표했습니다.
일본 우주항공연구개발기구는 그러나 하야부사호가 장비를 펼치지 못해 시료채취에는 실패했다고 밝히고 26일에 시료채취를 다시 시도할 것이라고 말했습니다.
달 이외의 다른 천체에 탐사선이 착륙했다가 이륙한 것은 하야부사호가 처음입니다.하야부사호는 오는 2007년 6월에 총 20억 킬로미터의 우주항행을 마치고 지구로 귀환할 예정입니다.

A Japanese space probe is preparing to make a second attempt to land on an asteroid to collect samples for study.
The Hayabusa probe successfully touched down on the rotating Itokawa asteroid last Sunday. But the unmanned spacecraft failed to deploy equipment that would collect asteroid material. Japan's space agency says the probe will try again early Saturday local time (2200 UTC Friday).
Hayabusa was launched in May of 2003 and is scheduled to return to Earth in June of 2007 after traveling a total of two billion kilometers.
If the mission succeeds, it will be the first time material from an asteroid is brought to Earth, and could help scientists learn more about how the solar system was created.
