이란의 핵 계획 문제와 관련해 유럽 국가들이 이란에 협상 시간을 더 부여할 것이란 입장을 밝힌 가운데 미국이 유럽 연합의 계획을 지지한다고 밝혔습니다.
국제 원자력 기구 IAEA의 그레고리 숄티 미국 대사는 24일 오스트리아 빈에서 열린 IAEA 이사국 회의에서 이같이 밝히고, 그러나 이란 당국의 핵무기 비확산 조약 (NPT) 의무 불이행에 대해 무한정 인내를 가져서는 안된다고 말했습니다.
숄티 대사는 지금까지 이란의 IAEA에 대한 협력은 실망을 안겨주고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.

The United States has voiced its support for a European plan that would give Iran more time to negotiate with the European Union about its suspect nuclear program.
But top U.S. diplomat Gregory Schulte told the International Atomic Energy Agency Thursday that it should not have unlimited patience with Tehran over its non-compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. He said Iran's cooperation with the IAEA has so far been disappointing.
Mr. Schulte spoke in Vienna, at a meeting where the 35-nation IAEA board was expected to approve a U.S.-backed E.U. draft proposal for new talks with Iran.
Those talks are set to focus on a Russian plan to process Iranian nuclear fuel in IAEA member-country Russia, rather than in the Islamic republic.
The United States and Europe accuse Iran of clandestine efforts to develop an atomic bomb. Tehran insists its program is aimed at developing electricity.
