중국 동북부, 하얼빈시에서는 당국이 상수도 서비스를 사흘간 중단한다고 발표하자 주민들이 마실물을 구하느라 공황상태가 빚어지고 있습니다.
당국의 이번 조처로 인구 3백만의 하얼빈시 어느 지역이 영향을 받고 있는지는 알 수 없는 상태입니다. 하얼빈은 중국에서 열번째로 큰 도시로 주변지역 인구가 8백만에 이릅니다.
이번 조처는 지난주 발생한 화학공장 폭발사고로 상수원이 오염됨에 따라 주민들을 보호하기 위한 것이라고 시 관리들은 밝혔습니다.
폭발사고는 하얼빈에 식수를 공급하는 송화강 상류에서 380 킬로미터 떨어진 지린시에서 지난 13일 발생했습니다.

Residents of Harbin, China, a city of three million people, have been buying bottled water in a panic after authorities announced a three-day shutdown of municipal water service.
There is no information on the area affected by today's (Tuesday's) water-service shutdown in northeastern China. Up to eight million people live in the area surrounding Harbin (which is one of China's 10 largest cities).
Officials said they are closing Harbin's water mains to safeguard the city's supply from contamination by a chemical-plant explosion last week.
The site of the (November 13) accident was in (the city of) Jilin, 380 kilometers upstream on the Songhua River, which supplies Harbin's water.
Harbin authorities originally said the city's water was safe to drink, but the official China Daily (newspaper) reports rumors of contamination have been circulating for days, causing a run on bottled-water supplies even before today's closure was announced.
