보고서는 이민 노동자들은 자신들이 떠난 개발도상국들에 최소한 1천670억달러를 송금하고 있으며, 이는 모든 개발지원 자금을 합한 액수보다 2배 이상 많은 것이라고 지적했습니다.
가장 많은 송금이 이뤄지는 나라는 중국과 인도, 멕시코 등이며 이들 송금은 아프리카와 동유럽, 남아시아, 라틴아메리카 등지에서 빈곤을 완화하고 경제를 부추기는데 역할을 하는 것으로 평가받고 있습니다.

A new report from the World Bank says the world's nearly 200-million migrants help both the nations where they find work and the families and countries they leave behind. Immigrant workers send at least 167-billion dollars of "remittances" back home to developing nations, which is more than twice the level of development aid from all sources.
The largest amount of remittance money goes to China, India and Mexico and is credited with cutting poverty and boosting the economy in parts of Africa, Eastern Europe, South Asia, Latin America, and elsewhere. Bank experts urge public officials to cut the cost of sending immigrant remittances home and better manage the social and political problems that sometimes grow out of migration.
The World Bank also said the economies of developing nations grew at 6.8 percent last year, but will slow a bit this year and next.
