남 아시아 지도자들이, 내년 1월 1일 발효되기로돼있던 “남 아시아 자유 무역 협정, SAFTA”의 세부 사항을 완결짓지못한채 방글라데시에서의 이틀간 정상 회담을 끝냈습니다.
그러나, 인도와 파키스탄, 방글라데시등 남아시아 지역 협력체, SAARC 회원국들은 관세와 세금, 투자와 관련해 여러가지 새로운 조치들에 합의를 보고, 비자 발급 요건을 자유화하기로 결정했습니다.
이들은 또한 인도주의적인 위기 사태에 대한 역내 대응 방안을 향상시키고 아울러 테러에 대한 대응 협력을 강화하기위해 인도에다 재난 관리 센터를 설치하기로 합의했습니다.
한편 남아시아 국가들이 조류 독감의 확산을 점검하기위한 역내 보건 감시 센터를 창설하기로 합의했다고 방글라데시 총리가 밝혔습니다. 남 아시아 지역 협력체, SAARC의 7개 회원국들에선 조류 독감이 발생했다는 보고가 전혀 없으나, 일부 국가들은 감염 국가들로부터의 가금류 수입을 이미 금지시켰습니다.
중국에서는 치명적인 조류 독감 바이러스, H5N1으로 인해 중부 후베이 성에서 2500마리의 조류가 죽었으며, 이로 인해 인근의 가금류 3만여마리가 도살됐다고 관계자들이 밝혔습니다.

South Asian leaders have ended their two-day summit in Bangladesh without finalizing details of the South Asia Free Trade Agreement, or SAFTA, supposed to go into effect on January 1st.
But the members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (or SAARC) agreed on a number of new measures related to customs, tax and investment, and decided to liberalize visa requirements.
They also agreed to form a disaster management center, to be based in India, designed to improve the region's response to humanitarian crises, and to improve cooperation in responding to terrorism.
Bangladesh's prime minister says South Asian nations have agreed to create a regional health surveillance center to monitor the spread of bird flu.
No cases of bird flu have been reported in the seven members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC -- Pakistan, India, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan), but some nations have banned poultry imports from affected countries.
Meanwhile in China, officials (on Saturday) said the deadly H5N1 avian flu strain killed 25-hundred birds in central Hubei province, prompting the slaughter of more than 30-thousand birds nearby.
