The U.S. military in Iraq says American and Iraqi forces have finished clearing operations in the western border town of Husaybah, which is believed to be a major entry point for foreign fighters and weapons. The military said today (Wednesday) that patrols and raids would continue to root out remaining insurgents in the town near the Syrian border.
Elsewhere, attacks in Baquba and Baghdad killed at least seven people. The U.S. military also reported the death (Tuesday) of a Marine in western Iraq. In a separate development, the lead lawyer (Khalil al-Dulaimi) for Saddam Hussein and his seven co-defendants, says the defense team will not appear for the next court session on November 28th.
Their decision comes a day after the murder of the second member of their team in less than three weeks. There was no reaction from the tribunal, which has the authority to appoint a new team if the lawyers do not appear.
