프랑스의 자크 시라크 대통령은 그 나라에서 열흘째 폭력 소요 사태가 계속되자 질서 회복과 안보가 최우선 과제라고 말했습니다.
시라크 대통령은 6일 안보 관계관들과 폭동에 관한 긴급 회의를 가진 뒤 그같이 말했습니다.
프랑스의 회교도 빈민가 폭동이 6일에도 전국 여러 도시들에서 계속되는 가운데 수도 파리 중심가에서 처음으로 자동차 방화사태가 벌어졌습니다.
프랑스 당국은 일요일인 6일, 폭도들이 여러 도시들의 주로 북아프리카 출신 회교도 이민자 밀집지역에서 수 백 대의 자동차에 불을 지르는 등 폭동을 일으켰으며 휴대전화와 인터넷 등을 통해 폭동을 선동하고 있다고 말했습니다.
파리 중심지역 주민들은 경비가 삼엄하게 펼쳐진 가운데서도 밤사이에 여러 대의 자동차들에 방화로 불탔다고 전하고 있습니다.
프랑스의 폭동사태는 최근 파리 교외에서 북아프리카 출신 10대소년 두 명이 경찰의 추적을 피해 달아나다가 감전사하는 사고가 일어난 것이 발단이 되어 전국적으로 확산되면서 열 흘째 계속되고 있습니다.

French President Jacques Chirac says restoring order and security is the top priority after 10 nights of riots.
Mr. Chirac spoke (Sunday) after emergency talks with security officials on the the riots that spread to more towns Saturday night, including central Paris for the first time.
Authorities said today (Sunday) that rioters, mainly from North African immigrant communities, are now using cell phones and the Internet to coordinate their attacks. Overnight, several cars were torched in the heavily guarded capital in neighborhoods residents said were calm until Saturday night.
Saturday was the 10th straight night of violence since two teenagers of North African origin were accidentally electrocuted as they hid from police outside Paris.
The violence has sparked debate on France's perceived failure to integrate its immigrant community. French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin is expected to soon announce measures to improve quality of life and opportunities for the country's immigrants.
