400 여명의 보건전문가들이 참석하는 최대 규모의 이번 조류독감 방역 국제회의에서는 H5NI 계통의 치명적인 조류독감 바이러스의 감염확산을 억제하는 방안이 중점적으로 논의될 예정입니다.
이번 국제회의에서는 또 조류독감 발생에 관한 국제적 감시체제 구축과 항바이러스 약품 공급문제도 논의됩니다. 한편, 세계은행은 개발도상 국가들의 조류독감 방역대책을 지원하기 위해 3억 달러의 기금을 책정하고 그 운영에 관한 국제회의를 별도로 열 예정입니다.
한편 중국 정부 관계관들은 중국 후난성의 조류독감 발생지역 주민 세 명이 조류독감 바이러스에 감염됐는지 여부를 판정할 수 있도록 세계보건기구,W-H-O에 도움을 요청했다고 중국 관영 신화통신이 보도했습니다.
후난성 중부지역에서는 최근 조료독감이 발생해 수 천 마리의 가금류가 폐사하거나 도살폐기됐으며 이 지역의 주민 세 명이 조류독감 H5N1 계통 바이러스에 감염된 것으로 추정된 가운데 그 중 한 명이 사망했습니다.
중국 당국은 최근 몇 주일 동안에 여러 지역에서 조류독감이 대규모로 발생했다고 밝혔습니다.
한편, 북한에 인접한 중국 랴오닝성에서도 또 다른 조류독감 발생사례가 나타나 보건당국이 수 만 마리의 가금류를 도살폐기했습니다.

Some 400 health experts are to meet in Geneva on Monday to discuss a global plan for stemming the spread of bird flu.
The three day meeting is expected to be the largest gathering of health officials in response to the disease, which some warn could become a global pandemic killing millions of people.
Officials will discuss proposals aimed at preventing the spread of the H5N1 flu strain in animals, strengthening global disease surveillance systems, and increasing access to anti-viral medicines.
Health experts say the virus is already prevalent in animals in Asia, is spreading in Europe and could reach Africa and the Middle East in the near future.
The World Bank plans to discuss its new avian flu fund, initially set at around 300-million dollars, for helping developing countries battle the disease.
Chinese officials say they have asked the World Health Organization to help determine if three people have contracted the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu.
China's Xinhua news agency reports the three, one of whom has died, lived in central Hunan province, where an outbreak of the virus recently killed thousands of birds.
China has reported several mass outbreaks in bird populations across the country in recent weeks.
Today (Sunday), in Liaoning province which borders North Korea, health workers and police are battling another outbreak, slaughtering hundreds of thousands of birds.
