아난 총장의 대변인은 이란 정부도 현 시점에서 아난 총장이 이란을 방문하는 것은 적절치 않다는데 합의했다고 말했습니다. 이 대변인은 아마디네자드 대통령의 발언을 둘러싼 논란을 감안할 때 아난 총장이 예정대로 방문을 한다 해도 계획했던 의제들을 다루기는 어려울 것이라고 말했습니다.
아마디네자드 대통령은 지난주 이스라엘이 지도에서 없어져야 한다고 발언해 국제사회의 비난을 초래했으며 유엔 안보리는 이 발언을 비난하는 성명을 발표했습니다.

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has canceled this month's planned trip to Tehran following Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of Israel.
In New York Friday, a spokeswoman said Mr. Annan and the Iranian government had mutually agreed it was an inappropriate time for the secretary general to travel to Iran. She said it would have been difficult to advance the planned agenda in light of the ongoing controversy regarding Mr. Ahmadinejad's remarks.
Last week the Iranian president caused an international outcry by saying Israel should be -- in his words -- "wiped off the map." The Security Council, along with the United States, Russia and other nations, issued statements condemning Mr. Ahmadinejad's statement.
Mr. Annan plans to visit French President Jacques Chirac on Monday, followed by trips to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Pakistan.
