미국 연방대배심은 미국 중앙정보국 요원 신분 폭로사건인 리크게이트 사건에 대한 거의 2년간의 조사 끝에 28일 루이스 리비 비서실장을 정식 기소하기로 답신했습니다.
패트릭 피츠제럴드 특별검사는 그동안 백악관의 누군가가 미국 중앙정보국 요원인 플레임 부인의 신분을 폭로했는지 여부에 관해 조사를 진행해 왔습니다.
플레임 부인의 남편인 조세프 윌슨 전 이라크 주재대사는 부쉬 행정부가 이라크전쟁을 정당화하기 위해 정보를 조작했다고 밝힌 자신을 처벌하기 위해 자기 부인의 신분을 폭로했다고 주장하고 있습니다.
만약 다섯가지의 혐의사실이 모두 유죄로 인정될 경우, 리비는 30년 징역형과 100만달러 이상의 벌금에 처해질 수 있습니다.
로브 백악관 부실장은 이번에 기소되지 않았지만, 추가 수사를 받게 될 것으로 알려지고 있습니다.

Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis Libby, has resigned after being indicted on perjury, obstruction of justice and false statement charges.
A U.S. federal grand jury returned the indictments today (Friday), after a nearly two-year investigation into whether a White House official illegally exposed the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame in 2003.
The five-count indictment accuses Mr. Libby of lying to investigators about how and when he learned Ms. Plame's identity. If convicted on all five charges, Mr. Libby could face up to 30 years in prison and more than a million dollars in fines.
President Bush's chief adviser Karl Rove was not indicted today (Friday) but is said to remain under investigation.
The special prosecutor in the case, Patrick Fitzgerald, is scheduled to hold a news conference in Washington shortly [at 18 hours, universal time].
Ms. Plame's role in the CIA was leaked to the media after her husband, diplomat Joseph Wilson, accused the Bush administration of manipulating intelligence to justify the Iraq war. Mr. Wilson says the White House acted in order to punish him.
