The son of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri has hailed the findings of a U.N. report that implicated Lebanese and Syrian officials in his father's assassination.
Saad al-Hariri said in a televised statement today (Saturday) his family accepts the results and calls for the case to be taken to an international court.
Friday, President Bush urged the United Nations to convene as quickly as possible to address the report, which he described as "deeply disturbing."
Controversy swirled around the report Friday when U.N. investigator Detley Mehlis acknowledged that he deleted references that implicated two relatives of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The U.N. investigator said he chose to strike out specific names from the version released to the public because it could give the wrong impression of established facts. He denied suggestions he had been pressured to conceal the suspects' identities.
Syria's U.N. ambassador (Fayssal Mekdad) has called the report politically motivated and not credible.
