조지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 새로운 지출법안을 통해 밀입국자들을 막고 불법이민자들을 본국으로 돌려보낼 수 있을 것으로 자신감을 표명했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 22일 주례라디오방송에서 총규모 320억 달러 규모의 국토안보법안을 이번 주에 서명, 발효시킬 것이라고 말했습니다.
이 가운데 230억 달러는 국경경비 요원들의 증원과 새로운 기술의 도입, 자연적인 국경의 개선과 순찰 강화 등에 투입될 것이라고 부쉬 대통령은 밝혔습니다.
또 나머지 37억달러는 불법이민자들을 수용하고 멕시코로 되돌려보내는데 필요한 시설확장에 사용될 것이라고 말했습니다.

President Bush has expressed confidence in a new spending measure he says will help stop illegal immigration and return illegal immigrants to their homes.
Mr. Bush spoke on U.S. radio today (Saturday) about the 32-billion-dollar homeland security bill he signed into law earlier this week. He said some of the new funds (2.3 billion) will aid border protection with added personnel, new technology, and improvement of physical borders and border patrol stations. He said other funds (3.7 billion) will go toward expanding holding facilities for detained illegal immigrants and returning Mexican illegals to their homes.
Mr. Bush said immigration reform should include a temporary worker program. He urged lawmakers to help create a plan to allow immigrants temporary passes to fill jobs that he says no Americans are willing to take.
