The first Indian plane with relief supplies for earthquake victims in Pakistan arrived today (Wednesday) at a military base near Islamabad, carrying tents, medicine and other goods.
Tuesday, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told reporters that his government is ready to send whatever Pakistan needs for survivors of Saturday's earthquake that hit the divided region of Kashmir.
NATO is coordinating an airlift of aid supplies from Europe, with the first planeload expected to reach Pakistan today. The United States is sending more supply-carrying planes to Pakistan. The U.S. military's Central Command says C-130 and C-17 aircraft will transport 30 pallets of supplies to an airfield near Islamabad. It said eight U.S. helicopters are ferrying supplies to earthquake-stricken areas and evacuating injured people.
The United States has announced an initial emergency aid contribution of up to 50-million-dollars. The United Nations has appealed for 272-million-dollars to provide emergency relief.
