유럽연합은 터키에게 유럽연합 정회원 자격 대신에 특별 파트너 자격을 부여하는 제안을 하게 될 것이라고 프랑스의 필리페 두스트-블라지 외무장관이 말했습니다.
두스트-블라지 장관은 2일, 룩셈부르크에서 유럽연합 회원국 외무장관들이 터키 가입문제 협상에 관한 긴급회의을 열고 있는 가운데 프랑스 라디오 방송과의 인터뷰에서 이같이 말했습니다.
두스트-블라지 장관은 터키가 유럽연합의 정회원국으로 가입하려면 터키 정부가 다수의 법들을 개혁해야하기 때문에 유럽연합의 기준에 맞추기가 대단히 어려울 것이라고 지적했습니다. 유럽연합 회원국이 되려면 엄격한 민주주의와 인권 요건들을 충족시켜야만 합니다.
유럽연합의 기존 회원국 오스트리아는 터키에 대해 정회원국에 맞먹는 대체자격을 부여하자고 제의하고 있으나 터키는 이에 반대하고 있습니다. 터키의 레셉 타입 에르도안 총리는 2일, 유럽연합은 세계의 강대세력이 될 것인지 아니면 기독교 회원클럽으로 남아 있을 것인지 여부를 결정해야만 할 것이라고 말했습니다.

France's foreign minister says the European Union could end up offering Turkey a privileged partnership instead of full membership.
Philippe Douste-Blazy spoke to French radio Sunday during emergency talks in Luxembourg on Turkey's troubled membership bid. Formal talks with Turkey are scheduled to open Monday.
Mr. Douste-Blazy said it would be very difficult for Turkey to meet the standards for EU membership because Ankara would be forced to change a number of laws.
EU members must meet strict democracy and human rights requirements.
EU diplomats are struggling to overcome Austria's demand that membership talks must include an alternative to full membership, which Turkey is refusing to accept.
