오늘 반전 연사들 가운데에는 이라크에서 전사한 미군의 어머니로 지난 8월에 부쉬 대통령과의 면담을 요구하며 부쉬 대통령의 텍사사스주 클리포드 농장 앞에서 야영을 하며 시위를 벌였던 신디 시한 씨도 들어 있었습니다.
신디 시한 씨는 부쉬 행정부가 통제불능의 범죄인이라고 비난하며, 더 이상의 미군들이 이라크에서 죽게 해서는 안될 것이라고 말했습니다.

Thousands of people are rallying today (Saturday) in Washington to call for an end to the war in Iraq. Speakers addressing a crowd near the White House denounced the war as misguided and called for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.
One of the speakers was Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq who gained national media attention for her criticism of President Bush. She called the Bush administration "out of control" and "criminal," and she said no more American troops should have to die in the war.
Other speakers, including civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, criticized the sluggish federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina, calling it negligent. Protest events continue throughout the day, with a planned march and a concert. Similar protests are being held in other U.S. and foreign cities.
Counter-demonstrations by war supporters are also planned. U.S. polls indicate increasing discontent with the war in Iraq. But President Bush says withdrawing prematurely would make the world more dangerous.
