지난 1994년의 르완다 대학살과 관련해 마을 법정에서 유죄를 선고받은 르완다인들이 지역사회 봉사활동을 시작했습니다.
유죄가 확정된 이들 935명은 다음주 초 르완다 중부 기타라마주에서 도로건설에 쓰일 돌을 캐낸 뒤 부수는 작업을 할 예정입니다.
이들은 학교와 보건소 외에 대학살 희생자들을 위한 주택을 건설할 것이라고 르완다 국가봉사위원회 사무총장은 말했습니다.

The first group of Rwandan genocide convicts sentenced under a village court system is set to begin community service work for their role in the 1994 massacres.
Early next week, 935 convicts in the central province of Gitarama will begin extracting and crushing rocks to be used in road construction.
The executive secretary of Rwanda's National Committee for Community Service (Emmanuel Twagirumukiza) says the convicts will also build houses for genocide survivors, as well as schools and health centers.
They were sentenced after standing trial in the traditional court system known as "gacaca" (pron: gah-CHA-cha). Many have already spent an average of about seven years in jail.
The community service is meant to complete their sentences.
