미국의 새로운 여론조사에서 미국인 열 사람 가운데 여덟 명 이상이 이라크 전쟁 때문에 미국내에서 지출될 예산과 자원이 유출되고 있음을 우려하고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.
허리케인 카트리나 피해사태후 뉴욕 타임스 신문과 CBS 뉴스가 공동 실시한 여론조사 결과 조사대상의 90퍼센트가 이라크 전쟁에 계속 돈을 들이면서 국내의 보건, 교육 분야 등의 지출을 삭감하는 것에 반대하는 것으로 드러났습니다.
또한 조사대상의 52퍼센트는 이라크 주둔 미군병력을 가능한한 조속히 철수시킬 것을 원하는 것으로 나타났습니다.

A new public opinion poll indicates that more than eight in 10 Americans are concerned that the war in Iraq is draining away money and resources that could be used in the United States.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the New York Times/CBS News poll indicates a widespread reluctance among Americans to make further financial sacrifices for the Iraq war. Ninety percent of those surveyed said they would disapprove of cutting spending on domestic programs like health care and education to continue funding the war.
When asked how long American troops should remain in Iraq, 52 percent called for them to be withdrawn as soon as possible. Forty-two percent said troops should stay as long as it takes to make sure Iraq is a stable democracy.
The nationwide poll of more than one-thousand adults was conducted September ninth through 13th.
