한편 콘돌리자 라이스 미 국무장관은 유엔 회원국들에게 유엔 개혁을 추진할 것을 촉구했습니다.라이스 장관은 17일 유엔 총회에서 연설하는 가운데 유엔이 현재의 도전들을 분담할 수 있도록 개편되어야 한다고 말하고, 반테러 협정인 [테러에 관한 포괄적 협약]을 비준해 줄 것을 촉구했습니다.
라이스 장관은 테러리즘과 무기 확산, 인신매매 등 전세계적인 최대의 위협들이 국가 안과 국경 너머에서 벌어지고 있다고 말했습니다. 세계정상회의는 16일 세계 정상들이 유엔 개혁을 촉구하는 온건한 성명을 채택하고 폐막됐으나, 이 성명은 코피 아난 유엔 사무총장이 제시한 대대적인 유엔개혁안에는 미치지 못했습니다.

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has applauded the outcome of this week's global summit, and has urged nations to implement the agreements they made.
Mr. Annan told the General Assembly in New York today (Saturday) that the summit achieved progress across a "broader front" than on any other single occasion in the history of the United Nations.
He acknowledged that the summit did not achieve all of its goals, but he commended progress made in areas such as human rights, democracy, fighting poverty, terrorism and disease, and preventing genocide.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called on members of the United Nations to move forward with reforming the world body.
She said the United Nations must be transformed to meet shared current challenges, and called on nations to ratify an anti-terrorism pact, the Comprehensive Convention on Terrorism.
She made the remarks to the United Nations General Assembly today (Saturday).
She said the greatest global threats emerge within states and cross borders, including terrorism, weapons proliferation, and human trafficking.
Friday, a United Nations summit concluded with world leaders adopting moderate U.N. management reforms, which fell short of the sweeping changes called for by Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
