이라크의 바스라 시에서 시아파 회교도 수 천명은 2일 도로들을 점거하고 새로운 이라크 헌법 초안에 대한 지지를 표명하기 위한 시위를 벌였습니다.
바스라에서의 이번 시위는 오는 15일 헌법 초안에 관한 국민 투표에 앞서 시아파의 두 주요 정당이 주관했습니다. 시위자들은 또한 지난달 31일에 수백명이 숨진 시아파 순례객 압사 참사 사건도 비난했습니다.
이라크 정부가 이 참사에 대한 수사에 착수한 가운데 희생자들에 대한 장례식은 2일에도 계속됐습니다.

Thousands of Iraqi Shi'ites took to the streets of the country's second largest city today (Friday) to show their support for the new draft constitution.
The rally in Basra was organized by the two main Shi'ite political parties (The Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq and the Dawa Party), in advance of the October 15th national referendum.
Demonstrators also condemned Wednesday's stampede in Baghdad, that killed hundreds of Shi'ite pilgrims during a religious procession. Funerals continued today for the victims, as the government began an investigation into the tragedy.
