파키스탄 정부가, 이스라엘의 가자 지구 철수에 뒤따라, 이스라엘을 외교적으로 “포용”하기로 결정했습니다.
파키스탄의 쿠르쉬드 카수리 외무 장관은 1일 터키의 수도, 이스탄불에서 이스라엘의 실반 샬롬 외무 장관과 최초의 공개적인 회담을 가진 뒤 기자들에게 이같은 결정을 밝혔습니다.
샬롬 이스라엘 외무 장관은 이번 회담을 “역사적”인 것으로 묘사하고, 이 회담이 “평화의 시대”를 위한 길을 닦아줄것으로 기대한다고 말했습니다.
이스라엘과 파키스탄은 외교 관계가 없으나, 양측은 최근 수개월사이 이미 몇차례의 비공식 접촉을 가져왔습니다.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri says his government has decided to diplomatically "engage" Israel, following its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Mr. Kasuri was speaking to reporters today (Thursday) after meeting publically for the first time with his Israeli counterpart, Silvan Shalom, in Istanbul, Turkey.
Mr. Shalom described the meeting as "historic," and said he hoped it will pave the way for an "era of peace."
Israel and Pakistan do not have diplomatic relations. But the two sides have had some informal contacts in recent months.
Both countries have close ties with Turkey -- a predominantly Muslim but secular nation.
The foreign ministers' meeting comes ahead of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's plan to address an interfaith conference in New York during his visit the United Nations later this month. The conference is organized by the Council for World Jewry.
