일본은 전통적인 지진다발 국가이며, 최근에는 1995년 서부 고베에서 발생한 지진으로 6천여명이 사망한 바 있습니다.

More than one million people across Japan took part in disaster drills today (Thursday).
People at schools, offices and police stations practiced how to move to safety and how to protect themselves in the event of a major earthquake.
The exercises are part of Japan's annual commemoration of a massive earthquake in Tokyo in 1923 that killed more than 140-thousand people.
The drills came two weeks after northern Japan was hit by an earthquake that measured more than seven points on the Richter scale.
Japan has a long history of severe earthquakes. In 1995, a magnitude-seven quake in the western port city of Kobe killed more than six thousand people.
Similar quakes in 1703, 1782, 1812 and 1855 also damaged the capital.
