일본과 미국은 주일 미군 항공기들의 야간 훈련시 발생하는 소음을 줄이기 위해 일본 앞바다에 수십억 달러 규모의 초대형 부체식 활주로를 건설할 계획인 것으로 알려졌습니다.
일본 요미우리 신문은 [메가 플로트]로 알려진 이 부체식 활주로는 주일 미 해병대의 이와쿠니 공군 기지인근 해안에서 4킬로미터 떨어진 곳에 설치될 것이라고 말했습니다.
아와쿠니 기지에서는 현재 해안에서 1킬로미터 앞바다에 이미 또다른 신 활주로도 건설되고 있습니다.

Japan and the United States reportedly are planning to build a multibillion-dollar floating runway in the sea off Japan, to reduce the noise from U.S. jets' night-time exercises.
The Yomiuri Shimbun daily says the runway would be four kilometers offshore, near the U.S. Marine Corps' Iwakuni Air Station, (700 kilometers) southwest of Tokyo. The so-called Iwakuni "Megafloat" would be in addition to another runway already being built about one kilometer offshore.
