베트남 당국은 베트남 국립공원에 갇혀있던 진귀한 사향 고양이 3마리가 조류독감에 걸려 죽었다고 말했습니다.
사향고양이들은 지난 6월 하노이에서 남쪽으로 120 킬로미터 떨어진 쿡 푸엉 국립 공원에서 숨졌습니다.
베트남 당국은 사향고양이에서 채취한 바이러스를 연구소에 보내 검사한 결과 조류독감 바이러스인 H5N1 양성 반응이 나왔다고 말했습니다.
국립 공원 관계자들은 이 사향 고양이들에 어떤 가금류라도 먹이로 준 일이 없다며 옆의 사육장에 있는 같은 종의 다른 20여마리 동물은 조류 독감에 감염되지 않았다고 말했습니다.
과학자들은 중국 남부에서 진귀한 동물로 여겨지는 사향고양이가 지난 2003년 전 세계적으로 8백여명의 목숨을 앗아간 SARS 전염병의 주범이라고 말하고 있습니다.

Vietnamese officials say bird flu has killed three rare civets born in captivity at a national park in Vietnam.
The Owston civets died in late June at the Cuc Phuong National Park, about 120 kilometers south of Hanoi.
Samples sent to a lab came pack positive for the H5N1 virus.
An official at the national park said the civets were not fed any type of poultry, and 20 other animals of the same species in adjacent cages did not become sick.
Scientists say that civets, considered a delicacy in southern China, were the primary source of the SARS epidemic in 2003 that killed more than 800 people worldwide.
The H5N1 strain of bird flu has killed 62 people in Asia, most in Vietnam.
