중국 여성들의 사회적 지위가 일부 향상되고 있으나 전반적으로는 중국사회에서 여전히 남성에 많이 뒤쳐져 있다고 중국 정부의 한 성평등 관련 보고서가 발표했습니다.
24일 발표된 이 보고서에 따르면 중국 여성들은 시골 빈곤 지역 인구의 다수를 차지하고 있는 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.
이 보고서는 또한 일반적으로 세계에서 남성들의 자살률이 여성보다 높은 것과는 달리 중국에서는 여성들의 자살율이 남성보다 더 높은 것으로 나타났다고 밝혔습니다.
이보고서는 또한 정부와 집권당인 공산당내 여성비율이 낮은 것으로 나타났다고 밝혔습니다. 조사 결과 중국 공산당에서 여성의 비율은 18퍼센트에 불과했으며 공산당 상무 위원회 9명의 최고 위원에는 여성이 단 한 명도 없는 것으로 나타났습니다.

A Chinese government report on gender equality suggests women still lag far behind men in Chinese society, although some progress has been made.
The white paper released today (Wednesday) says women make up the majority of China's rural poor. The study also found that more women commit suicide than men in China - elsewhere in the world the suicide rate is higher among men.
The report says Chinese women are also underrepresented in the government and the ruling Communist Party.
Only 18 percent of party members are women, and there are no women in the ruling nine-member Standing Committee.
The report says China has taken steps to improve conditions for women, including tougher laws against domestic violence and trafficking. And it notes that more women are going to college.
