세계 청소년의 날 축제는 故교황 요한 바오로 2세에 의해 처음 만들어졌으며 6일간의 축제 기간동안 200여개국에서 모여든 청소년 카톨릭신자들이 개인적 삶에 있어 종교의 의미등을 토론하고 춤추고 기도하며 찬송하는 젊음의 축제입니다.
많은 카톨릭 청소년들이 이번 행사를 자신의 모국인 독일로 선택한 베네딕트 교황의 참석을 고대하고 있습니다.
교황 취임후 첫 공식 외국 나들이에 나서게 되는 베네딕트 교황은 21일 대형 야외 미사를 집전할 계획입니다.

More than 400-thousand young Roman Catholic pilgrims are crowded in and around Cologne, Germany, for the 20th annual World Youth Day.
The annual six-day festival, founded by the late Pope John Paul the Second, attracts pilgrims from about 200 nations to discuss the meaning of religion in their lives. They also dance, sing and pray.
Many of the pilgrims say they are looking forward to seeing Pope Benedict, who has chosen the festival in his native Germany for his first official foreign trip. He plans to conduct a huge outdoor Mass on Sunday to close the gathering.
Security is very tight in Cologne, with thousands of police on the ground as well as NATO-supplied planes patrolling the skies.
