A North Korean delegation visited a South Korean war cemetery today (Sunday) as a gesture of reconciliation between the two countries and to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of Japanese rule on the Korean Peninsula.
A delegation of about 200 arrived in Seoul today (Sunday) to take part in joint celebrations honoring war dead and looking back to liberation from 35 years of Japanese colonial rule of the peninsula.
Kim Ki Nam, vice chairman of North Korea's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Fatherland, mourned the war dead, including South Korean soldiers who died in the 1950 to 1953 Korean war.
After an opening ceremony, soccer teams from the two sides planned to play a friendly match at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul.
