일본의 히로시마 시는 6일 원폭 투하 60주년을 맞아 갖가지 기념행사를 갖고 그날의 슬픔과 아픔을 되새겼습니다.
이날 수만명의 히로시마 시민들은 폭염 속에서 평화기념 공원에 모여 그 당시 원폭 투하로 숨져간 수만명의 희생자들을 추모했습니다.
이날 아키바 타다토시 히로시마 시장은 평화선언을 통해 인간의 생존을 위협하고 있는 세계의 핵보유국가들을 비난했습니다. 아키바 시장은 유엔이 앞으로 15년내에 지구상에서 핵무기를 제거하기 위한 행동에 나설 것을 촉구했습니다.
한편, 이날 저녁 히로시마 시의 모토야수 강에서는 많은 시민들이 나와 수천개의 종이 제등을 강물에 띄어 보내며 그날 숨져간 영혼들을 달랬습니다.
일본 관리들은 전쟁사상 최초로 사용된 원폭 투하로 히로시마에서 모두 27만 2,000여명이 사망했다고 말하고 있습니다.
뒤이어 나가사키 시에 대한 미국의 원폭 투하로 일본은 1945년 8월 15일에 연합국에 무조건 항복함으로써 제 2차세계대전이 끝났습니다.

The Japanese city of Hiroshima has marked the 60th anniversary of the city's World War II devastation by an atomic bomb, as a Japanese official called on world leaders to abolish nuclear weapons by 2020.
Under a scorching sun, tens of thousands gathered in the city's Peace Memorial Park today (Saturday) to remember the victims of the deadly attack, in which a single American bomb leveled the city and killed tens of
thousands.
In a peace declaration, Hiroshima's mayor (Tadatoshi Akiba) accused the world's nuclear armed nations of jeopardizing human survival. He called on the United Nations to act to eliminate nuclear weapons within 15
years.
Japanese officials say more than 272-thousand people died as a result of the nuclear attack, the first time an atomic weapon had ever been used in an armed conflict.
After another U.S. bombing of the city of Nagasaki, the Japanese unconditionally surrendered on Aug. 15, 1945, ending World War Two.
