북핵분쟁에 관한 6자회담의 고위 외교관들은 이번 협상이 합의도달 여부에 관계없이 8일에 일단 끝날 것으로 예상하고 있습니다. 6일, 베이징에서 12일째 회의를 마친 6자회담 대표들은 이번 회담이 북한측의 비군사적인 평화적 핵이용권리 주장 때문에 교착됐다면서 이같이 예상하고 있습니다.
미국은 북한의 어떤 핵개발 계획도 핵무기 제조를 위해 변경될 수 있다는 우려 때문에 북한의 핵개발 계획을 전면 폐기하라고 요구하고 있습니다.
6자회담 참여 당사국들은 이번 회담의 공동문안에 대한 합의를 모색하고 있으나 별 진전이 없다고 말하고 있습니다.
미국의 수석대표, 크리스토퍼 힐 국무차관보는 당사국 모두가 짧은 기일안에 회담에 복귀하기로 합의할 경우 이번 회담이 휴회될 수도 있다면서 그러나 이미 이루어진 진전이 회의중단으로 잠식될 수도 있다고 경고했습니다.
힐 차관보는 또 긴 하루를 보내고 별 진전이 이루어지지 않았다면서 목적을 달성하려면 회의속도를 빨리해야 할 것이라고 말했습니다.
힐 차관보는 두 번째 선택은 회담의 조기 속개 합의하에 휴회하는 것이라고 말했습니다.
일단 휴회하고 각국 대표들이 본국에 돌아가서 협의한뒤 다시 회담에 돌아와 문제를 해결한다는 것이 두 번째 선택이라고 힐 차관보는 설명했습니다.힐 차관보는 그러나 이번 회담에서 진전이 이루어진 것은 분명하다면서 그 진전의 효력이 상실되는 것은 원치 않는 일이라고 말했습니다.
한편, 일부 외교관들은 이번 회담에서 공동문안에 대한 합의가 이루어지지 않을 경우 중국이 일종의 의장국 성명을 발표하는 것으로 이번 협상을 끝내게 될른지도 모른다고 말하고 있습니다.

Senior diplomats at the six-nation talks in Beijing on North Korea's nuclear weapons program say they expect the negotiations to end by Monday, whether or not agreement is reached.
Delegates are meeting for a 12th day (today / Saturday), but they say the talks are deadlocked, due to North Korea's insistence that it must be able to continue developing its nuclear program for non-military purposes.
The United States says it is concerned that any North Korean nuclear-energy program could be modified to create nuclear weapons.
The six nations meeting in the Chinese capital ( -- the two Koreas, Japan, China, the United States and Russia -- ) have been trying to agree on a statement acceptable to all parties, but they have reported little progress (as
the second week of negotiations nears an end).
The chief U.S. envoy, Christopher Hill, says the talks could be recessed if all parties agree to return within a short period of time, but he cautions that such an interruption could erode progress the negotiators already have
made.
If there is no joint statement, diplomats say China can issue a so-called chairman's statement that would end the talks without an accepted framework for North Korea's disarmament.
