조지 부시 대통령은 러시아주재 신임 미국대사에 윌리엄 번스 전 국무부 근동 담당 차관보를 지명할 것이라고 백악관이 밝혔습니다.
번스 전 차관보는 중동 문제 전문가로 한때 주러시아 미국대사관의 정무 담당 공사 참사관을 지낸 바 있으며, 요르단 주재 대사도 역임했습니다.
번스 전 차관보는 미 상원의 인준을 받을 경우 신임 한국주재 대사로 지명된 알렉산더 버쉬보우 현 대사의 후임으로 부임하게 됩니다.

The White House says President Bush will nominate William Burns as the new U.S. Ambassador to Russia.
Although known primarily as an expert on the Middle East, Mr. Burns is a former minister-counselor for political affairs at the embassy in Moscow. He is also a former U.S. Ambassador to Jordan and most recently served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, he would replace outgoing Ambassador Alexander Vershbow.
