Iraqi police say Algeria's top diplomat in Iraq and an aide have been abducted in western Baghdad.
Authorities say gunmen kidnapped the two outside a restaurant in the Al-Mansur district of the Iraqi capital today (Thursday).
Top diplomats from three Muslim countries -- Egypt, Bahrain and Pakistan -- were targeted in western Baghdad earlier this month.
The Egyptian envoy was kidnapped and insurgents claimed to have killed him. Bahrain's envoy was wounded in an ambush, while the Pakistani ambassador escaped unhurt.
Separately, five Iraqi soldiers were killed today in a suicide car bomb explosion south of Baghdad.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Defense Department is due to publish a report on Iraq later today (Thursday). Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says the report will present positive developments in the country in recent months, while acknowledging that the insurgency will continue to be a major challenge.
