The new book "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has shattered publishing records in the United States in its first day of sales.
New York-based publisher Scholastic says sales of the book, released Sunday, totaled 6.9 million copies in the first 24 hours. The book also broke online sales records at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
J.K. Rowlings is the author of the book, which is the sixth in a series about a young wizard who fights the evil Lord Voldemort.
