A U.N. panel is reviewing fresh information that raises new questions about Secretary-General Kofi Annan's links to Iraq's oil-for-food program.

The review is based on an e-mail suggesting Mr. Annan may have known more than he has admitted about a contract awarded to a company that employed his son.

The e-mail -- first disclosed in Tuesday's New York Times -- details a 1998 meeting involving Mr. Annan and an executive from the firm Cotecna shortly before the company won an oil-for-food contract.

In the e-mail, the Cotecna executive (Michael Wilson) wrote that he held discussions with the secretary-general and was told by Mr. Annan and his colleagues -- quote -- "we could count on their support."

If accurate, the e-mail could challenge a main finding of the independent oil-for-food inquiry that there was insufficient evidence to show Mr. Annan knew about Cotecna's bid to win the contract.
