민주화 개혁을 요구하는 시위군중들을 무력 진압한 텐안멘 유혈사태 16주년을 맞아 4일 홍콩에서 수만명의 군중들이 촛불 밤샘 시위를 벌였습니다.
시위 군중들은 이날 16년 전 텐안멘 광장의 대학살 장면을 텔레비전으로 다시 시청하고 희생자들을 애도하는 조가를 불렀습니다. 시위 군중들은 중국이 1989년 전차의 엄호를 받는 군대가 수백명의 항의자들을 살해한 데 대해 이를 인정하고 사과할 것을 촉구했습니다.
한편, 베이징에서는 텐안멘 광장 일대에 삼엄한 경계가 펼쳐지고 있으며, 시민들의 기념행사는 없었습니다.

Tens of thousands of people have held a candlelight vigil in Hong Kong to mark the 16th anniversary of China's bloody crackdown on pro-democracy supporters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.
Demonstrators today (Saturday) watched television footage of the massacre and then they sang solemn songs. They demanded that China acknowledge and apologize for the 1989 assault in which troops backed by tanks killed hundreds of protesters.
Today's vigil was the only large-scale protest on Chinese soil. In Beijing, security was tight around Tiananmen Square and there were no signs of public commemorations.
Mainland authorities still refuse to acknowledge the events in and around Tiananmen Square, but activists in Hong Kong have remembered the event every year since it happened.
