그루지아를 방문한 조지 부시 미국 대통령은 수도, 트빌리시에서 수 만 명의 군중 앞에서 연설했습니다.
부시 대통령은 지난 1991년 8월에 구 소비에트 연방으로부터 독립을 선포하고, 2003년에는 불법 국회 의원선거를 평화적으로 거부한데 대해서 그루지아 국민을 치하했습니다.

부시 대통령은 민주주의 건설이 쉽지는 않을 것이라고 전제하고, 하지만 미국은 그루지아를 지지할 것이라고 강조했습니다. 그루지아의 미하일 샤카쉬빌리 대통령 정부는 국가 경제를 개혁하고 부패를 척결하기 위해서 단호한 조치들을 단행해 왔다고 부시 대통령은 말했습니다.
“여러분들은 소수인종의 권리가 존중되고 자유 언론이 증진되며 활발한 야당 활동이 환영 받고, 그리고 평화적인 과정을 통해서 단합이 달성되는 민주적인 사회를 건설하고 있습니다. 이러한 새로운 그루지아에서 결국 법치가 지배하고 자유가 모든 국민들의 천부의 권리가 될 것입니다.”
미국은 유럽 기구들과 보다 밀접한 관계를 발전시키려는 그루지아의 열망을 존중하고 있으며 그루지아가 북대서양 조약기구, 나토와 협력하도록 장려하고 있습니다.
부시 대통령은 그루지아에서 이탈한 지역인 아브하즈와 남 오세티아 자치 공화국들에서의 분쟁을 언급하면서, 그루지아 지도자들이 대서양 양안 공동체에 그루지아가 통합되기 위해서는 갈등을 평화적으로 해결하는 것이 필수적이라는 사실을 인식하고 있다고 말했습니다. 이와 동시에 부시 대통령은 그루지아의 영토적인 통합과 주권이 모든 나라들에 의해서 존중되어야 한다고 강조했습니다.
부시 대통령은 트빌리시 연설에서 그루지아인들이 평화를 구축해 나가는 과정에서 그들의 영토에 심고 있는 자유의 씨앗이 전 세계에서 꽃을 피우고 있다는 사실을 반드시 알아야 한다면서, 자신은 그루지아인들의 용기에 감사하기 위해서 그루지아를 방문했다고 말했습니다.

On a visit to Georgia, President George W. Bush addressed a crowd of tens of thousands of people in the capital, Tbilisi. Mr. Bush praised the Georgian people for declaring their country's independence from the Soviet
Union in August 1991 and for peacefully rejecting flawed parliamentary elections in 2003. He said that the "Rose Revolution," as it became known, set an example for democratic movements elsewhere:
"In recent months, the world has marveled at the hopeful changes
taking place from Baghdad to Beirut to Bishkek. But before there was a Purple Revolution in Iraq, or an Orange Revolution in Ukraine, or a Cedar Revolution in Lebanon, there was the Rose Revolution in Georgia. Your courage is inspiring democratic reformers and sending a message that echoes across the world: freedom will be the future of
every nation and every people on Earth."
Mr. Bush stressed that building democracy would not be easy, but said the U.S. would stand by Georgia. He says Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's (PRON.: mee-kah-EEL sah-kahsh-VEE-lee) government has taken "tough steps" to reform the country's economy and crack down on corruption.
"You are building a democratic society where the rights of minorities are respected, where a free press flourishes, a vigorous opposition is welcome, and unity is achieved through peace. In this new Georgia, the rule of law will prevail, and freedom will be the birthright of every citizen."
The United States respects Georgia's desire to develop closer relations with European institutions and encourages its cooperation with NATO. Referring to the conflicts in the breakaway Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South
Ossetia, Mr. Bush said Georgia's leaders know that the peaceful resolution of conflict is essential to Georgia's integration into the transatlantic community. At the same time, Mr. Bush said, "the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia must be respected by all nations."
"As you build freedom in this country," President Bush said in his speech in Tbilisi, "you must know that the seeds of liberty you are planting in Georgian soil are flowering across the globe. I have come here to thank you for your
courage. The American people value your friendship, and admire your determination."
