조지 부시 미국 대통령은 제 2차 세계 대전당시 구소련의 국민들은 믿을수 없는 고통을 겪었으나 그들의 희생과 용맹성은 나찌즘을 물리치는데 있어 가장 큰 요인이었다고 말했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 모스크바 방문중 푸틴 러시아 대통령과 별도로 비공개 회담을 가졌습니다.
8일 저녁 모스크바 외곽에 있는 푸틴 대통령의 별장에서 있었던 두 정상간의 회담내용에 관해서는 별로 공개되지 않았으나, 회담 분위기는 우호적이고 따뜻했던 것으로 알려졌습니다.
콘돌리자 라이스 미 국무장관은 두정상은 아주 가까운 개인적 친분을 맺고 있으며 서로 매우 솔직한 사이라고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 또 러시아의 민주주의 상황도 논의 사안이었다고 말하고 두 대통령은 또 중동 평화문제, 이라크 와 아프간, 이란 북한 문제에 대해서도 장시간 이야기를 나눴다고 말했습니다.

President Bush says the people of the former Soviet Union suffered incredible hardship in the Second World War, but their sacrifices and bravery were a major factor in the defeat of Nazism.
During his visit to Moscow (on the 60th anniversary of the allied victory in Europe), Mr. Bush also met privately with President (Vladimir) Putin (telling him that Russia is a great nation, and that the United States and Russia should continue working together on major world problems).
Reporters got a brief glimpse of the Russian and American leaders' meeting Sunday evening at Mr. Putin's dacha (country home) outside Moscow, and the atmosphere appeared warm and friendly. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice says the two men have an excellent personal relationship, and they are "absolutely straightforward" with each other.
As Ms. Rice put it, "They say what they think, they say what they mean, and then they act on that."
The state of democracy in Russia was one of the topics, Ms. Rice says, and the two presidents also spoke at length about the chances for Middle East peace, the situation in Iraq, and about Afghanistan, Iran and North Korea.
Mr. Putin showed off one of his prized possessions -- a gleaming white (Russian-made) Volga sedan dating back to 1956 -- and Mr. Bush took the car for a spin (a brief drive) around the Russian leader's estate. The two presidents and their wives also dined together (Sunday).
