이라크 주둔 미군, 헬리콥터 격추 용의자 검거 <영문기사 첨부>

이라크 주둔 미군은 23일 민간 헬리콥터를 격추시킨 용의자 6명을 체포했다고 말했습니다.

미군 관계자들은 한 민간인의 제보를 받고 야간에 두채의 가옥을 급습해 이들을 체포했다고 말했습니다. 관계자들은 이 가옥에서 다량의 폭발물 제조 물질들을 압수했다고 말했습니다. 그러나 군 당국은 이 가옥들의 소재지나 용의자들의 국적에 대해서는 밝히지 않았습니다.

이 민간인 헬리콥터는 지난 21일 바그다드 북부 20킬로미터 지점 상공에서 격추됐으며, 헬리콥터에 타고 있던 11명의 외국인들은 전원 사망했습니다.

2개의 무장단체들은 이번 헬리콥터 격추가 자신들의 소행이라고 주장하면서 추락장면을 담은 비디오 테이프를 방영했습니다.

한편, 23일 바그다드에서는 2건의 차량 폭탄 사건으로 9명의 이라크 군과 1명의 민간인이 사망하고 3명의 미군들을 포함한 30여명이 부상했습니다.

남부의 바스라 부근에서 차량폭탄이 터져 2명의 승객이 사망하고 2명의 이라크 인이 부상했습니다.

The U.S. military in Iraq says it has arrested six men who are suspected of shooting down a civilian helicopter earlier this week that resulted in the deaths of 11 foreigners.

Officials say a civilian tip led to the arrests during overnight raids of two houses. Bomb-making material also was confiscated. The military did not say where the houses were located nor did it give the suspects' nationalities.

The civilian helicopter was shot down about 20 kilometers north of Baghdad Thursday. Two militant groups have claimed responsibility for the attack and have released video footage of it.

Meanwhile, two separate car bomb explosions in Baghdad today (Saturday) killed nine Iraqi soldiers and one civilian. More than 30 other people were hurt, including three American soldiers.

And to the south, near Basra, a car exploded, killing its two passengers and wounding two Iraqis.
