파키스탄 정부는 아프가니스탄 주둔 미군과 나토 연합군의 주 보급로인 카이버 패스에 대해 통행금지령을 내리고, 카이버 지역 반군 소탕에 나섰습니다.
카이버 지역 최고 행정관인 타리크 하야트는 30일 기자들에게, 헬리콥터와 탱크, 대포로 무장한 지상 부대가 아프간 국경에 배치돼 반군을 겨냥하고 있다고 말했습니다. 반군들은 최근 나토군 호위대를 공격하는 것은 물론 납치극을 벌이기도 했습니다.
파키스탄 관리들에 따르면, 반군 소탕작전으로 현재까지 4명의 민간인과 1명의 반군 등 최소 5명이 사망했습니다. 이 지역 주민들에 대해서는 집 밖으로 나오지 말도록 경고조치 했습니다.
하야트 행정관은, 소탕 작전이 끝날 때까지 카이버 패스를 통한 나토 군의 보급을 금할 것이라고 말했습니다.

Pakistan has closed the Khyber Pass route used to supply U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, as Pakistani troops mount an offensive against militants in the region.
The top Pakistani official in the region, Tariq Hayat, told reporters (Tuesday)that ground forces backed by helicopter gunships, tanks and artillery are targeting militants who have carried out recent attacks on NATO convoys as well as a spate of kidnappings in the tribal region near the Afghan border.
Officials say at least five people have been reported killed so far, including four civilians and a militant. Residents say they have been warned to stay indoors.
Hayat said shipments to NATO forces through Khyber Pass will be suspended until the operation is complete. He did not say how long it would last.
Spokesmen for both the U.S. and NATO forces have welcomed the offensive aimed at security for their supply lines. They say the temporary closure of the route will not affect their operations.
