팔레스타인 과격 단체 하마스 소속의 망명 중인 지도자 칼리드 메샬은 하마스 단체가 이스라엘과 체결한 6개월 간의 가자 지구 휴전 협정을 연장하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
하마스는 14일 시리아 수도 다마스커스에서 하마스 최고 지도자 메샬이, 한 텔레비전 방송과의 회견에서 했던 말을 인용한 내용의 성명을 발표했습니다.
앞서 14일 가자 지구내 하마스 지도자 이스마일 하니예는 지지자 수 만 명이 집결한 하마스 창설 21주년 기념 집회에서 연설은 했지만 하마스가 휴전 협정을 연장할 것인 지의 여부와 관련해서는 특별히 언급하지 않았습니다.
프랑스 통신은 에후드 올메르트 이스라엘 총리 대변인의 말을 인용해 하마스가 휴전 협정을 잘 지킬 경우 이 협정을 연장할 태세로 있다고 보도했습니다. 이집트가 중재한 이 휴전 협정은 이번 주에 만료됩니다.

The exiled leader of Hamas says his Palestinian faction most likely will not renew a six-month-old truce with Israel regarding the Gaza Strip.
The militant group today (Sunday)issued a statement from Damascus quoting Khaled Meshaal's comments made in a television interview. Meshaal is based in the Syrian capital.
Earlier (today/Sunday), Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader in Gaza, addressed a rally of tens of thousands of supporters, but did not specifically say if Hamas would renew the truce. The rally was marking Hamas' 21st anniversary.
The French News Agency quoted the spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (Mark Regev) as saying Israel is ready to extend the truce if Hamas observes the deal. The Egyptian-brokered agreement is set to expire this week.
The agreement required Israeli authorities to gradually allow more goods into Gaza if militants there stopped attacking Israel.
But Israel tightened its blockade of Gaza last month after a surge in cross-border rocket attacks by militants.
