Anti-government activists in Thailand have agreed to end protests that have paralyzed Bangkok's airports, after Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat accepted a court ruling barring him from politics.
Protest leaders say they will end their airport siege Wednesday, about a week after they took over the runways and stranded about a quarter-million foreign tourists. Airport authorities say flights will resume in several days.
The activists agreed to disperse after the Constitutional Court outlawed Thailand's top three parties Tuesday and banned their leaders, including Mr. Somchai, from politics for five years. The court found the parties guilty of voter fraud.
Pro-government supporters accused the judiciary of staging a "silent coup" against the prime minister.
Mr. Somchai said today (Tuesday) he is now an "ordinary citizen." He spoke in the northern city of Chiang Mai, where he has been forced to govern because of security concerns in the capital.
