버마 군사 정부가 민주화 운동 지도자 아웅산 수치 여사의 정치적 동지를 체포했다고 야당이 밝혔습니다.
수치 여사가 이끄는 '민주주의 민족 동맹'은 경찰이 온카잉을 지난 1일 랑군 자택에서 체포해 갔다고 밝혔습니다. 온카잉이 체포된 이유는 알려지지 않았습니다.
올해 64살의 온카잉은 지난 1990년 '민주주의 민족동맹' 소속으로 총선에 출마해 당선된 바 있으며, 최근에는 태풍 이재민들을 위한 구호활동 조직에 참여해 왔습니다. 온카잉은 반정부 선동 책자를 만들어 보급했다는 이유로 15년간 복역한 뒤 지난 2005년 풀려났습니다.

Burma's opposition party says Burmese military authorities have detained a
prominent ally of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy says police took Ohn Kyaing
from his home in Rangoon late Wednesday. NLD spokesman Nyan Win said the reason
for his arrest is unknown.
The 64-year-old recently has been involved in organizing cyclone relief
activities.
Ohn Kyaing was released from prison in 2005 after spending 15 years of a
17-year sentence on charges of writing and distributing seditious pamphlets.
The former journalist and NLD member won a seat in 1990 parliamentary elections
that were never recognized by Burma's military rulers.
Last month, authorities released several political prisoners -- including
Burma's longest-held dissident -- as part of a general amnesty.
The United Nations and the United States welcomed the releases. But they also
called on the Burmese government to free all political prisoners and open a
reconciliation process with political opponents.
